NATA LEADERSHIP HELPS OTHERS LEARN - ESU 11 Workshop
Report by Chris Dolan
The area ESU11 art teachers gathered on Wednesday the 4th of February, to have a day of pottery lessons and Raku.  In the morning Scott Schwarz, Bertrand K-12 art instructor, gave a talk on the methods of Raku and showed a short clip on the process.  He then talked about glazing the bisque ware in preparation for the firing.  He then went out to start the kiln and while it was warming, Chris Dolan, Minden High School art instructor, gave a talk and demonstration on the potter's wheel.  After she was finished, teachers divided up and some threw on the wheels that other instructors brought, and some glazed their Raku wares.  Chris helped  teachers to work out problems they were having on the wheel, while others just needed help.  When finished they switched sessions of throwing and glazing.  When they were finished there, they went outside to Raku with Scott. Everyone got to partake in this event. This was great fun because of the glorious day weather wise, and satisfaction everyone experienced with the end results of their Raku firing.  A big thanks went out to Scott for hauling a trailer full of equipment!!

Advocacy 101 Toolkit
Who is my State Senator? How can I share information with my State Senator? What information can I share about the arts and arts education? Answers to these questions and more are in our Advocacy 101 Toolkit, provided earlier this year to attendees to our Arts Advocacy Day to help prepare them for the event. Now you can access this same toolkit and learn about the Nebraska Legislature, how it operates, and how to advocate for the arts. You can download a copy of the NFTA Arts Advocacy Toolkit here.
Our E-Advocacy page is your source for tracking legislative issues affecting the arts and arts education. We have listed bills of interest; clicking on the bill's link will take you to a synopsis of the bill and why we are monitoring it. At the bottom of the synopsis page are links providing additional information on the status of the bill. You can find our E-Advocacy page HERE.
