Empowering the Digital Generation through Creating Highly Interactive Virtual Environments
Grant Project Awarded to UNO Professor Lu

The NATA member, Dr. Lilly Lu, an Art Education faculty member at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, was recently awarded a research grant ($8,250) from the National Art Education Foundation (NAEF), an affiliation of the National Art Education Association (NAEA). In this grant project, Empowering the Digital Generation through Creating Highly Interactive Virtual Environments (HIVEs), Dr. Lu will investigate what and how digital-generation students can learn about art and design through creating HIVEs—virtual worlds and digital games—as art. The grant will offer curriculum, pedagogy, and technology for students in partnering schools or non-profit organizations to create and design their own virtual worlds/video games and exhibit their artwork during virtual events.
If you or your school are interested in creating virtual worlds (such as Minecraft or Opensim) and digital games as art for your digital-generation students in the classroom or in art club settings, please contact Dr. Lilly Lu at lillylu26@gmail.com or lillylu@unomaha.edu.
