Y.A.M. Celebration Recognizes Sixty-Four Students K-12
On a lovely day March 21st in Lincoln, at the State Capitol, families filled the Rotunda for our annual Youth Art Month Celebration. During the 30 minute ceremony, a Lincoln North Star High School Vocal Trio opened the celebration with the National Anthem and special guest Senator Hansen lead the Pledge of Allegiance and addressed the audience about the importance of the arts. This year's words of inspiration were delivered by featured high school artist, Evan Spencer of Aurora, and 2014 Nebraska Art Educator of the Year, Dr. Lisa Kastello. NATA member Sarah Weganast is proud to be Evan's teacher. Thank you to the many NATA teachers that attended and assisted with the ceremony and packaging of the artwork. Special thanks to Jocelyn Reiss and Jody Boyer for facilitating the show.  Debbie DeFrain and Carol Bom of the NDE provided the beautiful color programs and certificates for each student honored and coordinated the delivery and return of the artwork.

Video Portraits of Nebraska Artists Project Well Underway with Great Success and Support
As of Friday, the main interviews of the first four artists that were prioritized for the project have been completed. These are the interviews that are supported with funds from the Nebraska Arts Council (NAC). They include — Eddie Dominguez, Mary Zicafoose, Ying Zhu, Angela Drakeford. With two of these four — Eddie and Mary — we have also completed presenting to two arts classes and documenting the artists’ visits to their classrooms. We are still working to set up the school visits with Ying and Angela. The next task is to edit the interviews and presentations into the short video segments that will illustrate the Standards.  The NAC made available short video segments with four artists who they interviewed several years ago. These are great pieces, but they provide only one viewpoint about one of the Visual Arts Standards. So, Laurie and Bill made the decision to interview them again — at no charge to the project — so that they can provide full answers to all standards.
To date we’ve interviewed — Keith Jacobshagen, Karen Kunc
In the near future, we’ll interview — Jun Kaneko, Michael James
We’ve also received a second round of funding from the Cooper Foundation. That will allow us to document the lives and work of Littleton Alston, Nancy Friedemann-Sanchez, Donel Keeler, and Debra Salopek. View the beginnings of the project or contact Bill Ganzel to get your students involved with the project.
Northern Plains Indian Artist Residency
The University Art Galleries is excited to sponsor the second Northern Plains Indian Artist Residency at the University of South Dakota. The postmark deadline is fast approaching April 3, 2015.  The Contemporary Native Arts Program (CNAP) at the University of South Dakota (USD) seeks applicants for the Northern Plains Indian Artist Residency (NPIAR). Artists who are registered members of a tribe in the Northern Plains region are eligible to apply for the residency. The artist-in-residence will spend the entire month of June living and working at USD, located on the banks of the Missouri River in Vermillion, South Dakota. The artist will be expected to work on a new or ongoing visual arts project. This prestigious artist residency includes a generous stipend package, including a general living stipend of $3,000, a materials stipend of $3,000 and a technology stipend of $3,000. All food and lodging is covered by the CNAP program for the artist's four week stay. The artist will use the USD art department facilities to work towards the completion of their visual art project.  Find out more...
