NATA Members Are Very Busy Promoting Arts Education!

Please take a look at our 2014-15 NAEA/ Nebraska State Report . Our association is growing and the activity is stimulating. Throughout the year, please email us your upcoming visual arts activities and we will place them on the NATA calendar. To help us write this report every year, after you've completed any NATA activity, please update the NATA board using this submission form.

The search is on for exciting and stimulating materials to use with students. In the last 5 years students have responded more to motivators, quick introductions, and reteaching through the use of online resources. Have you found your new resources for the coming year? Maybe you can use some of these to build upon a unit you already teach. If you have other great sources not included here, submit them to be posted next week.

Across the 500 miles of Nebraska, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of accomplished artists living and working. Here. Now. Each of their stories is unique. Our goal is to tell those stories within the context of the new Nebraska Fine Arts Educational Standards. Many video profiles of Nebraska artists and resources are available for teachers.

The project, which was initiated during 2007-08, featured five posters depicting works by critically acclaimed contemporary Nebraska artists Kent Bellows, Jun Kaneko, Karen Kunc, Keith Jacobshagen and Michael James. In collaboration with UNO's Center for Innovation in Arts Education, a comprehensive curriculum was developed for primary schools to support this project. The posters, which included educational resource material on the reverse, were then sent to all 1,413 Nebraska schools, covering both public and parochial institutions, and serving 326,153 students in all. The curriculum also included videos of the artists, which can be seen on this website and on NAC's YouTube Channel.

Tour of the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience Technology
Inspired by a print titled Small Worlds by Wassily Kandinsky, on display in The Romance of the Moon, Dr. Stephen Ducharme of the UNL Department of Physics and Astronomy will give a lecture on nanotechnology and lead a tour of the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience. The NCMN is located in the Voelte-Keegan Nanoscience Research Center on the corner of 16th & W Streets.

First Friday Reception and Opening of the Permanent Collection Galleries
Sheldon's permanent collection galleries open as curatorial laboratories to highlight new acquisitions, showcase rarely exhibited objects, and explore new interpretations of collection favorites. Members of the music faculty of the University of Nebraska campuses in Lincoln and Kearney will perform in a salon-style gallery installation.
