The first process will involve the sun and water and is inspired by Imogen Cunningham’s photograph, Rubber Plant. We will collect specimens from the outdoors with interesting silhouettes and shapes and arrange on light sensitive paper. With Judy Stone Nunnely’s print titled Solar System as inspiration we will then use various mediums such as ink and other found materials to add interesting elements to the image. Our second piece will incorporate materials commonly found at home. Beginning with a pre-cut piece of masonite as the base for the work and a mixture of glue and water, we will breathe new life into disposable items. We will re-use the paper towels from the first project to trace out the shapes of our objects and adhere them to the masonite board. Next, we will cut out shapes of cardboard to create raised and lowered areas in our work. Using thin sheets of toilet paper, we will create a texture over top of the paper towel and cardboard outlined image. Once dried, we will apply acrylic paint to the top of the image using the work, Landscape Organicism by Sandra Gierke as inspiration. Once the acrylic has dried, an application of an oil-based glaze will be applied to the entire image as well as a clear coat to finish the piece. DISPLAY 2 OF YOUR STUDENT'S WORK AT FALL CONFERENCE The Leadership Center will allow us to replace their wall art with our own artwork throughout the premises for the duration of the conference. Each art educator may submit only two works of art from two different students. The work may be original 2-dimensional or photographs of 3-dimensional work (at least 8’x10” photo). 1. Begin by registering your students work with this form. Display space for size/layout formats are limited, so please make sure space is available by registering with this form before preparing the work. Once you register using this form, your space will be reserved only for the size you have entered. 2. Each art piece must be mounted on a heavyweight matt board or matted with a sturdy backing for hanging without bagging or sagging. If you have heavy or large work, please contact Melissa Cleaver to discuss our ability to accommodate your needs. 3. The work must have a hanging device that will allow it to be hung on an existing nail. No tape, staples, pins, or other hanging methods are allowed on the walls. 4. Please prepare the artwork for hanging using these guidelines and labeling procedures. 5. You must drop off (or arrange to have work dropped off) no later than Friday 8:30 a.m. and pick up after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. A facilitator at the registration table will hang the work and return it to you at the close of conference. Please refrain from hanging or taking the work off the wall yourself. For the sixth year, the Nebraska Wesleyan University Art Department will host our Bridge Exhibition for high school seniors. It will be held earlier this year, slated for the week of December 2 – 7, 2014. One of the many reasons last year’s show was so successful was because of the work by your student Katharen Hedges. We hope you will again encourage promising students to submit their work for this year’s exhibition. Once again, there will be multiple awards including Best of Show honors. In addition, entrants interested in majoring in art at Nebraska Wesleyan may compete for select art talent scholarships and up to two o$10,000 Bridge Scholarships. Seniors interested in competing for the scholarship are invited to submit three to five (3-5) works in any medium for consideration. Other students interested only in the juried exhibition should submit up to two (2) works in any medium. Students should upload PDF or JPEG images at art.nebrwesleyan.edu by Wednesday, October 15, 2014. We will notify selected artists by phone the weekend of October 25 and 26. All selected works should be delivered ready for exhibition to Elder Gallery in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts on Saturday, November 22, 1-4 p.m., or Monday, November 24, 2-6 p.m., 2014.
