Introducing Your New NATA 2016 - 2018 Secretary
one as my favorite, but I have long considered Picasso a significant influence on my creative process. I still remember seeing “Girl before a Mirror” for the first time in my 8th grade art class (shout out to Carol Schooley) at Walnut Jr. High in Grand Island. I love painting, doodling, collaging, mixed-media, making clay rattles, and fusing glass. My hobbies include cooking, baking, bowling, traveling, reading, and drinking margaritas. I am generally easy-going and laid-back (unless card or board games are involved-- then game on!) I start most days with a cappuccino, a few loving scratches to my cat, Pluto, leisurely conversation with my husband in the “green” room, and a bit of meditation.
Last Chance - 1 Week To Submit Your Fall Conference Presentation Proposal - Due June 15th! 2016 Fall Conference Plans Are Coming Together! - Personal Invite from Deb Goodenberger, Fall Conference Chair Dear Fellow NATA members, I would like to personally invite you to McCook for the 2016 Fall Conference. McCook is a small, but progressive community, with a fun downtown, restaurants and wonderful people. We are thrilled to share the state’s only Frank Lloyd Wright designed house with you and are very excited about our keynote speaker, Kenneth Shelton from LA, who will inspire us to “inspire” our students with technology and 21st century thinking! Please consider presenting for us! Our theme of, Connections By Design, is open to many interpretations. Do you have a wonderful hands-on project that teaches the Elements and Principles of Design in an unique way? How about Architecture and Interior Design? We design our curriculum around “big ideas” and our spaces to make learning easier. We design technology to work for us. We “design” everything! We will have the Art Educator show on McCook Community College campus in the Wrightstone Gallery. Did you know MCC is the oldest community college in Nebraska? The show will be open to the public and publicized in the local paper. Instructor, Rick Johnson, PhD., our judge will give a wonderful critique--he always does and is much admired in our community. So please consider presenting and/or attending our conference. We are working hard to make it a fun and inspiring experience for everyone! Hope to see you in McCook. ![]() AND WE'VE GOT A WINNER! Congratulations! Jody Boyer, NATA Student and Member Displays Co-Chair, has received a national award for her teaching strategies and application into the classroom. She will be presented the NAEA Caucus on Social Theory and Art Education Theory in Practice Award in New Orleans March 27th. Jody will present two sessions in New Orleans: Craftivism, Community and Service Learning and Designing Sustainable Landscapes as School Based Public Art. We are very proud to embrace Jody in the leadership of our association. Jody sums it up by saying, "Holy moly, humbled and proud! I have been awarded the 2015 CSTAE Art Teacher Social Theory-in-Practice Award, in support of my work utilizing social theory in my arts classroom! Only two teachers in the entire country get picked, I was sure my application was a long shot. I guess independently reading Paulo Freire and Bell Hooks AND applying that in my classroom IS good stuff! The CSTAE (Caucus on Social Theory in Art Education) is part of the National Art Education Association, and the award supports my presentations at the NAEA National Conference in New Orleans!"...Contact Jody.
