FEATURED ARTIST WORKSHOP FOR FALL CONFERENCE
Karen Kunc : Printmaking/Bookmaking
In this experimental hands-on workshop we will generate pages of printed images, front and back, with the monoprint process. The prints will be turned into a wrapped paper covered book with visible spine stitching details. Through the “Pressure Printing” process, unexpected juxtapositions of symbols will be printed from stencils, cutout relief forms, and textured materials impressed by rollers and the hand “Pin Press” with Akua water-base inks onto quality art papers. There will be generative collaboration in printing from the combinations of sources, materials and color layering. Techniques will be demonstrated and discussed, with ongoing problem solving and suggestions by faculty mentor. This process can spark minds through the imaginative pursuit of problems and solutions and results in a final book form.

Angie Fischer, Curriculum Facilitator

FEATURED ARTIST WORKSHOP for 2014 FALL CONFERENCE
Margaret Berry, Encaustics
"Hot Wax/Cool Art" will provide a brief background in encaustic history and contemporary applications as well as basic safety, materials and equipment information. The focus will be on simple encaustic collage which uses beeswax to layer natural elements together and fits the conference theme most closely, although oil pastel and drawing into the wax will be explored to enhance the collages. Time for discussion on applications in the classroom and links to science and writing curriculums.
Bob Reeker, Curriculum Facilitator
Bob is the current Past Co-President of Nebraska Art Teachers Association.  He served on the National Art Education Association board as Elementary Division Director 2009-2011. Prior to this she has worked extensively in prairie restoration and native plant propagation. In the summers she takes a short respite from the NE heat to commercial salmon fish in WA state, finding ways to make art from the natural surroundings everywhere.

SUMMER BOARD MEETING JULY 18TH IN ANSLEY, NE
If you are interested in attending with the board, please notify Allison Varah, allisonfees@gmail.com, to confirm your attendance ASAP.   A social/light lunch will begin at noon with THE MEETING following.

LightHouse public Art project

ILLUMINATING LINCOLN: LIGHTHOUSE is a public art project celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Lighthouse: a community-based, after school program which provides a safe, nurturing, supervised environment for youth in middle and high schools to participate in academic support, recreational activities, field trips, evening meals, educational workshops and mentoring.

Because we have seen a multitude of Public Art Projects pop up in cities across the United States and around the world, it is evident that their popularity is derived from the way they promote excitement, display artistic expression, build a feeling of community, and heighten awareness as well as support of the arts.

We have seen fiberglass J. Does in Omaha and steel bikes in Tour de Lincoln. Lighthouse chose a Light Bulb design – an icon of illumination - as its concept, utilizing fiberglass combined with a polyurethane resin for an environmentally friendly strong, long-lasting medium, manufactured in Gibbon, Nebraska, by Icon Poly.

This Project offers Nebraska Artists an opportunity to use their creative talent and imagination to paint, design and otherwise manipulate and/or add on to the six-foot Light Bulb for outdoor display throughout Lincoln, May 1 – September, 2015.  Click Link above for the Artist application form and agreement.  If you have trouble opening the documents please contact Liz Shea-McCoy at (402)430-5923
