Introducing Your New NATA 2016 - 2018 Treasurer

My name is Bill Cavill and I will be serving as the treasurer beginning in July. I currently work at UNK heading up the Art Education program. I taught K-12 art for seven years in South Dakota before moving to Kearney and have been here since 2011. My passions for teaching in art center ​around technology and visual culture. These days, I spend most of my days writing, writing, and rewriting as I am finishing up my doctorate and looking forward  to being done at the end of this summer. 

My family last summer, from left to right: Adrienne (19) who is doing an internship in Ireland this summer through UNO. LillyAnn (16) who is rehearsing for her lead role in The Inventor’s Daughter at the Kearney Community Theater. Me (redacted) who is writing until his fingers bleed. Angela (25 again) who is working at YRTC and finishing her Master’s in School Counseling through UNK. Izzy (12) who is busy almost every day at the pool and who aspires to be a novelist. Will (14) who is enjoying some time off before detasseling starts in July.

When not writing, I much enjoy hanging out with my beautiful family, traveling, reading sci-fi, collecting comic books, collecting stoneware pottery, playing video games, and dabbling in a little art-making now and again. 
​My favorite artist right now is Wangechi Mutu. If you haven’t seen her work, I strongly encourage you to do so. It’s beautiful, frightening, and oh-so poignant.

One of the special aspects of the NebraskaArtists.org project is that students are able to put questions directly to some of the most accomplished and interesting artists in the state. In this video, students at Lincoln’s Southwest High School ask ceramicist Eddie Dominguez what his favorite piece of art is, and why. HIs answer is surprisingly emotional. The Museum of Nebraska Art Guild announces "Sounds of Summer" music series schedule.

Enjoy the "Sounds of Summer" in MONA's lovely Cliff Hillegass Sculpture Garden - a perfect setting for a summer's eve. Sponsored by the MONA Guild, gates open at 6:00 p.m.; tables and chairs are provided for self-catered picnics. The live music begins at 7:00 and continues until 9:00. Admission is free, however donations are appreciated during intermission's "pass the hat." Reserved tables for 10 are available; please contact the Museum for pricing information.

In honor of Nebraska’s sesquicentennial, ​

Bone Creek is planning a large scale juried exhibition and sale for the summer of 2017. Nebraska is filled with many talented visual artists. This year’s forum focuses on the role and contribution of the arts in addressing the priority areas outlined in The Arts Leading the Way to Student Success: A 2020 Action Agenda for Advancing the Arts in Education.
