We are so proud to inform you that Bob Reeker has been elected as the Vice President Elect of our Western Region. Bob joins an amazing group of educators passionate about advocating for art education nationally. Bob will contribute his amazing energy and passion serving our national association a total of 4 years—2 years as Vice President-Elect, and 2 years on the Board as Regional Vice President. 

NEW AWARD RUBRICS FOR NATA MEMBER AWARDS

​Rubrics for scoring NATA Awards have been modified by the Awards Committee and we are seeking member input before the Executive Board will vote on their adoption for the 2016 award year. The proposed rubrics have been created to better align with NAEA rubrics but maintain emphasis of scoring based on statewide engagement. Please view the modified rubrics and provide feedback prior to January 30th. The Executive Board will vote on the adoption of the new rubrics within one week following membership input.

Using the Arts to “Bridge” Communities and Cultures
​As Hildegard Center for the Arts carries out its mission to “Celebrate the Arts and Inspire Humanity”, we embrace the challenge to continue bringing the arts to nontraditional audiences in fresh and innovative ways. With the successful completion of Hildegard’s groundbreaking collaboration with L/LC Habitat for Humanity, “Doorways to Hope”, drawing to a close, HCFA looks towards “Bridges” as its new inspiration for programming over the next three years. (2015 – 2017)

 2016 NATA Executive Officer Elections
View the 2016 candidates now!
Watch for your email this week and VOTE!
NATA officer elections occur in the spring of even-numbered years. Three board positions are voted on by membership: president-elect, secretary, and treasurer. These leadership roles are highly valued by our organization as a way to serve our profession. NATA has a strong history of leaders who are collaborative, creative, dedicated, professional, and care deeply about members and the advancement of art education in Nebraska and globally.
Voting will be processed online during the 2016 election via a secure ballot voting system. All NATA members will receive an email weekly with a voting link during the month before elections close February 15th. Once you place your vote, you will not receive any further email reminders. All members will be notified of the election results after the close of the election.

Litchfield teacher helps students develop skills by entering their work into competitions

LITCHFIELD — Two years ago, art teacher Allison Varah traded teaching 700 kids a week 
at Westside Elementary School in Omaha for teaching 70 kids a week at Litchfield Public Schools.​ She said she now is able to develop better relationships with the children. Read more...

2016 NATA Fall Conference Planning Meeting, Jan 23rd
What Role Might You Play?

Deb Goodenberger, 2016 McCook Fall Conference Chair, is seeking NATA members to help plan and facilitate the conference. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan 23rd at 1:00pm @ MCC Whrightstone art building in McCook. If you would like to join the committee before the meeting for lunch they'll be at Sehnerts at noon. There are many roles one may choose from and volunteering in your teacher's association is another way of achieving professional growth. Please contact Deb right away if you are interested in volunteering.

Nebraska Arts Council, Humanities Nebraska to Host Informational Sessions
(Omaha, Nebraska) – The Nebraska Arts Council and Humanities Nebraska will lead three informational sessions in February. Designed to provide an overview of each organization’s mission and programming, these sessions also include an introduction to grant opportunities and deadlines. The sessions are free of charge and open to the public. Meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:

SEEKING FALL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN WESTERN NEBRASKA!
Deb Goodenberger, 2016 McCook Fall Conference Chair, is seeking NATA members to help plan and facilitate the conference. A meeting will be scheduled in January. There are many roles one may choose from and volunteering in your teacher's association is another way of achieving professional growth. Please contact Deb right away if you would be interested in volunteering. Here's a few of the responsibilities in planning and facilitating a conference.
  • Conference Chair: Oversees and facilitates organization and communications of entire conference planning. Solicits funding through private donation and grant writing.
  • Vendor/Supply/Donation Coordinator - contacts, solicits, communicates with Vendors, Local Businesses, and Members to display goods at conference, donate supplies for workshops, donate goods for silent auction, small monetary donations, etc. Computer skills necessary with google drive and email communications.
  • Registration Coordinator - Works with webmaster to set up online registration. Monitors registrations and payments. Solicits payments from participants that forget to pay. Monitors workshop registrations, etc. Computer skills necessary with google drive and email communications.
  • Member Awards Banquet Coordinator: Sets up location and plans menu. Keep track of registrations and meals. Coordinate with the Caterer.
  • Art Educators Exhibition Coordinator: Organizes location and plans exhibit and reception. Collaborate with Advocacy Exhibition Chairs.
  • Member Presentation Coordinator: Solicits, coordinates, schedules member presentations. Work with webmaster. Computer skills necessary with google drive and email communications.
  • Budget/ Financing Coordinator: Monitor conference expenses and work with conference chair to write grants, solicit monetary contributions generally from local sponsors. Computer skills necessary with google drive and email communications. Work with the treasurer to coordinate security deposits and submit requests for payments.
  • Graphic Designer/ Marketing: Create conference program, fliers, thank you notes, news releases, etc. for all conference and committee needs. Computer skills necessary with google drive and email communications.  Coordinate with webmaster news releases and member communications.
  • Electronics Coordinator: Organize electronic needs for presentations and workshops.
  • Workshop Coordinator: Plan, solicit materials, coordinate with workshop leaders room organization, set up, supplies, etc. Work with registration coordinator to monitor workshop registration and scheduling.
  • Student Member Coordinator: Work with NATA Student Representatives to organize activities of interest for PreService teachers. Solicit colleges to bring student groups. Serve as liaison between conference planning and college professors around the state.
  • Worker Bees: Assist the conference chair with needs during conference. Coordinate, answer questions, facilitate electronic needs, know what is going on and help take some of the load off.
  • Courtesy: Provide water, personal needs to keynote speakers, workshop leaders, assist where needed to serve the personal needs of people in charge of the conference activities.
