In the High School

For Everyone
This session will be lead by Joe Gregory, adaptive art educator at JP Lord Elementary, and Jeanne Gregory, art teacher at Jefferson Elementary. Participants in this session will learn from two experts on how to develop curriculum, adapt tools and materials, how to locate resources when teaching art to those with special needs. This session will be taught from the elementary perspective. There will also be an opportunity for pre-service students to ask questions of the speakers.

A New Teacher's Perspective
This panel session will have three teachers, Joe Bristol (Wakonda Elementary), Marietta Deaver (Benson High School), and Marissa McClintock (Buffett Middle School), who are in their first three years of teaching share their experiences working with students with special needs in the art room. The panelists will highlight some of their successes and challenges, how they acquired the knowledge and skills to effectively teach students with special needs and discuss what they wish they would have known about teaching students with special needs before graduating. The panelists will also welcome questions from pre-service students.
