Presenters: Bob Reeker and Holly Kutschkau Session description: Come learn how a student teacher and cooperating teacher collaborated to help students learn that mistakes can result in something creative and beautiful...all the while also realizing that both can learn from each other as mistakes, issues, and problems, resulting in a wonderful experience for both novice and veteran teacher. |

Engagement Strategies in the Secondary Arts Classroom: Two Example Units
Presenters: Jody Boyer and Marietta Deaver Session Description: Two art educators will share two example units and discuss engagement strategies for the secondary arts classroom. One unit takes a formalist approach to studio practice, another takes a conceptualist approach. Attendees will leave with two units to use in their classrooms and a variety of strategies and insights for engaging the secondary learner. Managing Middle School: Lesson Planning Tools and Techniques
Presenter: Marissa McClintock Session Description: Teaching middle school can be challenging, but with the right classroom management, it can be joyful and rewarding. In this session, we will work through an aesthetic drawing and painting unit designed for sixth grade. We will discuss learning roadblocks and how to aid students in making focused, successful artworks. |
