Continued from the NATA Perspective Newsletter…

N – Notable Novelty. We are a worthy way for students to learn not just a passing fad. We bring freshness and new ideas to our students in a fun and exciting way.

O – Outstanding Offerings. Wonderful things are happening in art rooms across the state. Show your administration and parents what is happening.

P – Publish in your school newsletter and local paper. Sharing the good news happening in the arts will help your community understand the importance of the arts.

Q – Quit making excuses.  Times are tough for education and arts education.  We must continue to fight for what we believe in.

R – Responsibility. It is our responsibility to let others know that we are a valid curricular area. Let them know what your students are learning and how this method of learning is vital.

S – Successful Students. Students who have opportunities in the arts are often more likely to be successful future leaders.

T – Top Notch! We are only as good as we look to others. Show them what a top-notch group we are.

U – Unique! In a world of one right answer, the art room is a place where students can see that responses can look different and unique!

V – Voice. Use your voice to talk about the wonderful learning that is going on in your room. Let your students talk to the administration and parents about what they are learning.

W – Wow! Think of the difference we can make if we all start advocating!

X –  “X-claim” to everyone that will listen the importance of art education.

Y – You are important and the work you do is important. Children stay in school and build self-esteem because of what we let them experience in the art room.

Z – Zero-tolerance for anyone who says that the arts are a frill.  We bring a basic component to the complete education of every child.

Consider purchasing a NAEA/NATA membership for a leader in your district, whether principal or superintendent.  Associate cost is $58.  The member will receive valuable publications that will grow their knowledge about the importance of art education in their school and district.
